  The   Jackson Promise
Fundraising Campaign is Now Underway

The Jackson Promise is a unique opportunity to support the students of Jackson High School as well as help the economic growth of our hometown - Jackson.  Jackson Promise has the potential to challenge our community to better education outcomes and enhance our economic development, making Jackson a marketable community that produces a skilled workforce for current and future employers.

What is Jackson Promise and how does it work?

Jackson Promise is a local initiative.  Based on the success of the Kalamazoo Promise of college preparation, college graduation and economic development, the State of Michigan designated ten communities as “Promise Zones”.  Jackson was chosen as one of those communities and is ready to reap the success of what a Promise can do for our community.

Once fully funded, the Jackson Promise will provide every student that lives within the Jackson Public School District and graduates from one of the participating high schools located within the zone, including Jackson High, monies towards an associate’s degree at Jackson Community College (JCC) or the financial equivalent of 60 credit hours at JCC to be used at Spring Arbor University or Baker College of Jackson.  Monies may also be used for credit classes at the Jackson Academy of Manufacturing Careers.

As a designated Promise Zone, the Jackson Promise is required to privately raise the funds for our promise for the first two years.  Beginning in the third year of operation, the Jackson Promise will have the ability to capture growth through state property tax revenues.  Through tax increment financing, Jackson will be able to collect or “recapture” half of the growth of the property tax locally to help sustain funding of the Jackson Promise.

Community-based philanthropy is an integral part of the Jackson Promise fundraising efforts, especially in the first two years.  Private donations and business support from the Jackson community is essential.  Scholarships will not be awarded until the initial $2 million fundraising goal is reached.  The fundraising campaign for the Jackson Promise is now underway.  Jackson Promise understands that the road to a vibrant community starts with an excellent education.

Please consider becoming a proud investor in the Jackson Promise initiative today.
