The Technology Department at Jackson Public Schools is responsible for the purchase, implementation and maintenance of the District’s data, voice and video systems. Over 36 miles of optical fiber connect 14 JPS buildings and the Jackson County Intermediate School District, providing high-speed communication for our telephone and computer systems.
The Technology staff supports all computer applications, including network and data security, administrative applications, email and support systems, such as Teacher Access Center, which allows teachers to record attendance, grades and access student demographic data. The Technology staff maintains all computer labs, printers, application servers and network hardware. They monitor student Internet use and security and assist in developing and recommending policies regarding Internet access, technology use and safety. The Technology Department maintains the Jackson Public Schools website and the telephone voice mail system for the entire district. They offer support and assistance with any technology-related issue, from equipment to software and programs, to generating specialized reports. The Technology Use & Safety Policy has been published to enforce the policies of the Board of Education and applicable laws and regulations, including the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA).
Located within Hunt Elementary School, at 1143 North Brown Street, the Technology Department also houses the Educational Service Center and the JPS Child Accounting office.
