Mission Statement:  The staff at Hunt Elementary School will teach all students basic grade level skills and promote social, emotional, physical and academic growth.

Principal

Mrs. Mary Jo Raczkowski-Shannon is a graduate of Jackson Public Schools. She received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University and earned her Masters degree from Eastern Michigan University. Before becoming the Assistant Principal at Northeast Elementary in 1997, Ms. Raczkowski-Shannon taught elementary education in South Carolina and at Northeast Elementary School in Jackson for twelve years. She has been the principal of Hunt Elementary School since 1999. 

History:

Hunt School, named after brothers, Horace F. and William D. Hunt, opened as a junior high school in the fall of 1961. Horace Hunt was on the Board of Education, and William served as City Commissioner. Hunt became an elementary school in 1982. 

Demographics:

Hunt serves a diverse population of approximately 600 students in grades pre-school through sixth. Hunt is in a neighborhood setting on North Brown Street, near West Avenue and I94.  It is surrounded by acres of land, a wooded area, and has two playgrounds.

Curriculum:

The curriculum at Hunt Elementary School is set forth by Jackson Public Schools and is aligned to the State of Michigan Standards and Benchmarks.  Hunt has cluster classrooms, has received recognition for being a Green School and offers many night activities throughout the year. Hunt Elementary is handicapped accessible and offers Special Education and Compensatory Education classes. There are two complete computer labs in the Hunt School building.

Of Special Interest:

Hunt students participate in the Academic Games as well as other after school activities.  Hunt offers the Highfields 21st Century after school program and students receive tutoring from retired teachers. Hunt school has a full size gymnasium, a large cafeteria and a small theater.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce to you our web page. It exemplifies the best of the best; Hunt Elementary staff and students. The goal at Hunt School is to work together to create a positive atmosphere for every child who enters through our doors. 

 

We aim to provide a nurturing environment in which all children can flourish, grow, and enhance their self-worth. We also provide opportunities for students to strive for academic excellence in a stimulating school atmosphere. Above all, we value the close ties that we have among our children, staff, parents, and the Jackson community.
