JHS Drama

The newest part of our Performing Arts Department, Drama is beginning to come of it’s own. We have been able to expand our department two-fold this year and hope the Jackson Arts Community will find time to attend one or more of our three productions this calendar year.

Drama at Jackson High School begins with a class titled Theatre Arts, where we teach a variety of skills for interested students. A brief history of theatre in our society, audition skills, and an exploration of the theatre world- potential careers – is included in our curriculum. Play Production is the second level for most students where we look to specific skills for auditioning, costume and make-up design, stage and set design, and character development. This class will study and rehearsal several plays in-class, honing their skills so students can feel confident to be on stage in school and community productions.

Jackson High School Extra Curricular Productions are “Open-Call” auditions. Although we have no formal schedule, we do try to produce a fall drama or comedy, a winter show and a spring musical. Our Theatre Tech Department is fast becoming one of the most desired extra curricular activities for our students. The Jackson High School Auditorium truly is a jewel for Jackson Public Schools and the Jackson Arts Community.
