MIDDLE SCHOOL AT PARKSIDE AND 4TH STREET ELEMENTARY NEEDS YOUR INPUT:
Jackson Public Schools is preparing to apply for a Safe Routes 2 Schools Grant for Dibble Elementary, Sharp Park Academy, and the Middle School of Parkside. The Safe Routes 2 School Grant (SR2S) is managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation with support from the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
The SR2S grant seeks to encourage students in grades K-8, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. The SR2S Grant is a community effort and its goal is to make bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation choice. Part of the SR2S Grant dollars will address infrastructure improvements including sidewalks, roads and trails in and around the three schools. Local government entities work in conjunction with the district on the SR2S Grant to ensure collaboration on current and future road, sidewalk and trail projects. In addition to infrastructure, the SR2S Grant provides curriculum to schools that supports a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.
The grant process involves a number of community partners including parents to take part in the process and we are in the beginning stages. As a requirement of the grant, we need to survey our parents on your behaviors and attitudes towards walking and biking to school for your children. We would appreciate you taking just a few minutes to fill out this survey either online or stop into the office and fill out a paper copy.
