A Message From...

  • Jeremy Patterson, Principal

Greetings, and welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Jeremy Patterson, Principal for Instruction. This will be my sixth year leading Middle School at Parkside and my 14th year in Administration with Jackson Public Schools. We are excited about the professional learning environment and opportunities for growth at Parkside. For the upcoming school year, JPS will be using the “Flipped Classroom” model for instruction. Students will be provided with technology to take home every day. 6th - 8th-grade students will be assigned a Chromebook that will be returned at the end of the year. Students will use their devices in class and take them home each week to complete assignments on their at-home learning days. Instruction will be provided five days a week online. Two days a week students will receive in-person individual instruction with their subject area teachers and in small groups to reach mastery. This provides JPS with the flexibility to meet the individual needs of students, to step forward into a full-time face-to-face as well as a step backward into a full-time at-home instruction as directed by State and local officials. Your child will be assigned to group A or Group B based on home address, balancing course offerings, siblings attending JPS schools, and other variables. Students in Cohort A will come to school on Monday and Tuesday and work from home with directions from staff on Wednesday thru Friday. Cohort B will work at home Monday thru Wednesday with directions from staff and come to school on Thursday and Friday. We had a successful summer school experience with this model and look forward to fully implementing this flipped classroom model for the upcoming school year. Our teachers learned a lot from the Spring of 2020 on what we did well and how we can improve our delivery of instruction. Your feedback in that process was invaluable! Through the use of Google Classroom and IXL, we believe we will have a more streamlined approa

Dear Parkside Families, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. I look forward to continuing to work with my group of seventh graders as JPS engages in a flipped classroom model of instruction. Each student will be provided with a Chromebook to use during their two days per week on-campus and to take home in order to complete assignments on their three non-campus days. Instruction will be provided all five days of the week via Google Classroom with on-campus days allowing for individualized teacher support. Students will be assigned a schedule by home address. Cohort A will come to Parkside and Mondays and Tuesdays while Cohort B will come to Parkside on Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, deep cleaning and sanitizing will take place in all areas of the building. Additional daily health measures include mandatory mask-wearing for all staff & students, reduced class sizes, social distancing procedures, and frequent hand washing & sanitizing. You can count on me to: Hold high expectations for all students and maintain a strong culture of learning Follow the COVID-19 protective measures prescribed by the MDE Roadmap and JPS Return to Learn Committee Support students and families in their digital learning I will count on parents and guardians to: Check Power School regularly to monitor your student’s academic progress Communicate daily with your child about their studies Support your child in maintaining safe, sanitary, and healthy COVID-19 practices I will count on students to: Check Power School frequently to monitor your academic progress Put forth your best effort in all classes and be engaged in your learning whether on or off campus Follow COVID-19 safety and health protocols Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for frequent photos, information, and opportunities. School Health

The Center for Family Health operates three school health centers, in partnership with Jackson Public Schools, making affordable medical and behavioral health services convenient.

Two centers serve patients through the age of 21 – Parkside Health Center and Jackson High Health Center. Northeast Health Center serves patients of all ages and also offers dental services.

It is like having a family doctor’s office in a school. The centers are open to all students, regardless of where they go to school. Students under 18 need parental permission to be treated. The school health centers can serve as your family doctor or be utilized in tandem with your family physician.

School health center staff conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, administer immunizations, offer hearing and vision screening, and provide preventive health services and education. Therapists also are on staff.

All school health centers are open weekdays year-round. You can learn more about hours, specific locations and phone numbers by visiting www.CenterforFamilyHealth.org/ health-services/school-health.

Adults or children treated at any of the school health centers can utilize the services at the downtown Jackson facility at 505 N. Jackson St. and the Dental Clinic at 500 N. Jackson St.

All Center locations accept most commercial and government insurance groups, including Medicaid and Medicare; offer a sliding discount program; and never turn anyone away because of inability to pay.

Welcome to Parkside
