Dr. Aaron Johnson

Dr. Aaron Johnson is a teacher, administrator, higher education faculty, and author working as an equity leadership coach. Aaron has over twenty years of experience as a teacher, principal, director of instruction, and assistant superintendent with a commitment to equity in public school environments. He currently serves as the lead consultant for Archetype Consulting, an organization that is committed to ensuring equity across systems.

Aaron has worked with schools and districts around the nation and has presented at several local, regional, and national conferences with an emphasis on developing literacy for African American students in schools. He is the author of the Teachers College Press book, A Walk in Their Kicks: Literacy, Identity, and the Schooling of Young Black Males. He is active in the Detroit area, working with nonprofit organizations that are committed to literacy and equity in schools. Aaron’s ultimate vision is to engage citizens in literacy to participate in the democratic process.
