Jackson Pathways Announcements

  • Good evening Pathways family. This is Mr. Lewis with your weekly announcements. During the past few weeks students have been getting used to in-person school again. These weeks have brought about a new awareness of those norms our students missed out on when they were not fully in person. We are working with our students to remind them of protocols at school such as punctuality, placing backpacks in lockers, removing hoods and hats, completing work on time, asking questions when help is desired, and being respectful to adults and peers at all times. Please take some time to have a conversation with your student to make sure they are reminded of the ways you should operate as a young adult.

The latest TikTok challenges encourage messages that do not align with respect to others in the educational setting. This month’s challenge is encouraging students to smack a staff member on the backside. This behavior will not be tolerated and is addressed in our JHS Student Handbook as:

AGGRESSIVE MISBEHAVIOR: Physical contact or threat of physical contact towards school employees, or other adults working in the building, with the intention of doing bodily harm by a student or group of students.
    Consequence:
State law mandated - Procedure E

    PROCEDURE E:
A conference(s) with parties involved will be held
The following consequences will be assigned:
A mandatory ten (10) day suspension from school
A recommendation for expulsion will be sent to the Superintendent
A referral to appropriate police authorities will be sent
Parent(s) will be notified of the action taken.

Once again, please have a conversation with your young person about the appropriateness of their behaviors while at school in the classroom, hallways, and cafeteria.

Homecoming is next week! The parade will begin at 6:00 pm at Walmart. The football game will be at 7:00 pm. The dance will be October 16 from 8-11:00 pm and the cost is $10. If your child has been suspended or in school detention in the last two weeks, he or she will need to contact his or her grade principal for approval to attend these activities.

Progress reports will be finalized this week and sent home. This is a great opportunity to have conversations with your student about attending class, being diligent about getting work completed on time.

We appreciate your partnership and invite you to join us and our staff at our fall parent-teacher conferences on October 14 from 12:30- 2:30 pm and 5:30- 8:00 pm. Our teachers will be present and ready to share information with you regarding your young person’s engagement in his or her class. We look forward to seeing you there!!

If you or your child are not feeling well, are awaiting a COVID-19 test result, are symptomatic, and/or are in close contact with a positive individual….PLEASE STAY HOME. Thank you to our families who have been following these guidelines.

Good luck to all of our athletes competing this week. Weekly athletic schedules are emailed each week from our Viking Athletic department. Have a great evening and as always its a great day to be a Viking!

  • Good evening JHS Vikings. This is Mr. Lewis with your weekly announcements.

Picture Day is tomorrow. Packets are available in the Pathways with a code that can be used online.

Jackson High and Pathways is a closed campus. This means that once the bell rings for the start of school, students are to remain on campus until the final bell rings at 2:17 unless you have permission from a parent, or your schedule includes going to work, the Career Center, or college classes.

If you are receiving a phone message letting you know your student was absent. It is most likely accurate and your child was either so late that they were marked absent or were missing from class that hour. Please check your students attendance records often and contact the Pathways office if you have any questions.

We are beginning to see more students roaming the hallways and we will be cracking down on students who are in places where they are not supposed to be, please have a conversation with your student reminding them that Should be in class all our every hour and less they have a pressing need to be elsewhere.

I want to also let you know that cell phones in the classroom will be at the discretion of the teacher and can only be utilized during time when students are allowed to do independent work. We are not allowing cell phones or headphones during instructional time. We believe that what you pay attention to is what you learn. A student can not learn content and pay attention to their phones.

Also as a reminder we do not allow students to have food delivered from local restaurants via DoorDash or any other food service.

All staff, students, and visitors are required to wear masks while in any JPS building or attending a JPS indoor sponsored event regardless of their vaccination status. If you or your child are not feeling well, are awaiting a COVID-19 test result, are symptomatic, and/or are in close contact with a positive individual….PLEASE STAY HOME. Thank you to our families who have been following these guidelines. We are all in this together!

Every year, Pathways is required to submit a Household Information Survey form for each student to the State of Michigan. The purpose of these forms is to determine which students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. We are required to submit this information, even for students and families who do not believe that they qualify. In doing so, we have been able to provide free or reduced lunch for the entire school, which helps to ensure that those in need are receiving assistance. Your cooperation in completing and returning the form is greatly appreciated.

September is suicide prevention month and we want to make sure everyone is aware of resources that are available 24 hours and 7 days a week. If you are in crisis, or know someone who needs help, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline NOW at:
    1-800-273-TALK (8255)
    www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org

Stomp Out Suicide spreads awareness in our community on the impact suicide has had in Jackson and how together we can create real change.

This year’s event will be on September 24 at the Michigan Theater from 5-9, IN PERSON with an option to stream it live from home. We will have a screening of the "Do It For Daniel" film, keynote speaker and father of Daniel, Jeff Olsen, will speak, and there will be a luminary walk around downtown Jackson at dusk.

Enjoy the rest of your evening and remember it’s always a great day to be a Viking!

  • Good evening! This is Mr. Lewis your Principal for Instruction at Jackson Pathways High School. The summer is over and we are anxious to get the school year started. We are looking forward to a great year. A chance to get back to somewhat of a normal school experience. Your Pathways staff is excited to see what you can accomplish.

Our first day of school is a half day which will be on Wednesday, August 25th and students will attend homeroom at the beginning of the day. Dismissal will be at 10:45 am.

Parent pick up and drop off will continue to be in the front of the building and on the west end. Do not use the circle drive in the east end as that creates congestion for the building next door.

Bus cards have been mailed out to homes. If you have not received your card, please contact transportation at 841- 2181.

Student parking for juniors and seniors will only be located on the west side of the building near the new athletic area. Students will enter and exit via the new JHS Welcome Center. Sophomores will park in the east side student lot and enter on the east end. Those doors will lock after the first hour begins so be sure to encourage your young person to be on time. The west entrance can be accessed after that time. All students who are driving vehicles to school must submit a copy of their license and vehicle registration. Fines will be assessed to vehicles that are not registered with the Athletic Dept at Jackson High School.

If you are not able to log in to your PowerSchool account, use the password that is associated with your email login. If you do not have your PowerSchool username information, please contact the Pathways office. This is also great time to double check your contact information (ie. address, phone number, and email address).

    Pathways Secertary-Rosie.talmage@jpsk12.org

Each student will receive a Chromebook in first hour on Friday. A device contract must be signed by both parent/guardian and student before the device is issued. Please access this link to sign your student’s contract or complete the hard copy that will be given to your student.

Remember COVID-19 is very much still a concern in the community. Please consider getting your student, 12 and older, vaccinated. It is the best defense against spreading and contracting COVID-19. If your student would like to wear a mask to school, he/she is free to do so.

Also, as a reminder we are hosting a back to school dinner on Tuesday the 24th at 6pm- We will be sharing information that is specific to Pathways and your future success.

Have a great evening and remember it’s always a great day to be a Viking!
