Jacquelyn Brock, Principal
Welcome video for Bennett Elementary Principal Jackie Brock (Young 5's - 2nd Grade)- 2018/2019 Jackson Public Schools.
Welcome to Bennett Elementary! My name is Jacquelyn Brock and I am principal at Bennett. We are a small K-2 building with approximately 280 students. Northeast Elementary is our sister school for Grades 3-5, so our start and dismissal times, as well as bus schedules, are aligned to serve families with students attending both schools. This year we are excited to have 2 Community Action Agency Preschool classrooms serving 3-4 year olds, as well as a Young 5’s program for those students needing that additional “gift of time” for gaining the readiness skills and confidence needed to be successful in school. Bennett has a dedicated staff that shares my excitement for teaching and learning. We look forward to having you join our Bennett Family and having a great 2018-2019 school year!
Bennett offers a Multi-Tiered System of academic and behavior support and daily “WIN” time. Our focus is on ALL students learning in a safe, caring environment, developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. We incorporate STEM Math and Science Inquiry-based activities into our daily content area instructional practices. These activities motivate and inspire creativity and enhance the joy and excitement of learning and instill the desire for students to become lifelong learners!
Our United Way sponsored Energizing Education Program provides additional mentoring support in Reading and Math to 1st & 2nd gr. students, as well as All School Family Fun Nights focused on building literacy skills and engaging STEM activities throughout the year. The Kiwanis Club sponsors our 2nd gr. Lego Club inspiring our students to become future engineers and designers, or to explore other STEM/STEAM related career paths.
Music, Spanish, and PE are also offered at Bennett. All K-2 students receive additional reading and math support daily in our two computer labs. Our staff has been trained in effective instructional and targeted intervention strategies. They work collaboratively in grade level teams to analyze and use data to inform their instruction and provide engaging, interactive lessons and activities that meet the diverse learning needs of your child. We strive to empower our students with foundational language arts and math skills, and the confidence to reach “higher levels of learning” in whatever career path they choose in their future.
Your partnership with our school and staff is very important to your child’s success. We need your support in working with your child’s teacher, and the many volunteers and stakeholders from our community that impact their learning. It takes a team: a partnership between the school, the community, and the home, for all students to be successful in reaching their academic, behavior, and social goals. A partnership is essential for students becoming positive contributing citizens in our community and lifelong learners. As a parent or guardian, YOU are a member of our team and that partnership. Please join us in our mission to create a culture of academic excellence for our students and a solid foundation for workforce readiness! We invite you to sign up to volunteer in some way this school year to support our TEAM. PTO and volunteer sign-up forms are always available in our office. Please feel free to call us at (517)841-2730 with any questions, or to schedule a tour of our school.
