Marti Kuhn, Principal

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Cascades Elementary School. My name is Marti Kuhn and I am a very proud graduate of Jackson Public Schools. This is my 11th year as Principal at Cascades Elementary.

Thank you for saying “YES” to our bond. There is so much excitement in the air with the building of the new Cascades. Our students and staff will have first hand experience watching it grow, which is projected to open in the fall of 2021. At the beginning of the year, we are going to make items to go into a time capsule at the new school.  Cascades will have three classrooms with the new 21st century furniture and technology in them thanks to our bond. We are excited to see how our students will fully engage with the furniture and technology.

We hold our students to high expectations with academic excellence. We focus on the whole child. We meet the students where they are in their own learning and build upon those needs. We work together as a team with students, parents and staff  to improve student achievement and build social skills for life. Communication is vital to this relationship and our team.

Cascades uses many different strategies and interventions such as school multi-age learning, Peer to Peer teaching, WIN (What I Need) time where we meet the needs of each student at their level and provide one on one or small group instruction with our teaching staff and support staff.  We also provide daily 5 structure with reading and daily 3 structure with math, IPADS, Chromebooks, online learning with Lexia Core 5 and Math Prodigy, and writers workshop on a daily basis.

Our students leave Cascades ready to be positive members of our community. They understand that they need to be problem solvers and this helps put them on the right path to workforce readiness and the desire to be lifelong learners. Our whole staff provides the guidance for our students to practice manners, communicate in a positive way and truly look for the best in everyone. We are HERO’s here at Cascades. We are helpful, we give our best effort, we’re respectful and we own our own learning. We give out HERO tickets to our students and have weekly drawings in the classrooms, as well as monthly drawings with the principals.

Cascades has a full time counselor and a full time Department of Health and Human Services provider on campus. We offer many community programs such as Energizing Education, a reading-based mentor program, CP Federal Credit Union provides lessons to understand money, Jackson Police Department, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Jackson District Library.

We encourage our families to visit and engage in their student’s education. We have the best PTO. They provide our students with popcorn days,  dances, carnivals, family nights and lock-ins. Our PTO is always recognizing our staff for the hard work that they do. Please engage with our website and our Jackson Public Schools app for all upcoming dates for special activities.

Thank you for choosing Jackson Public Schools, Where Community Comes Together.
